Welcome to The Mom (and the Dad)!

Welp. We won a @Shorty. Best Single Post or Activation. Our little post about installing changing tables in men’s restrooms beat out Hellmann’s, Ritz, Heinz, and a slew of other Mad Men-worthy brands.

We (Nick and Jenny) collaborated on the now-viral blog post for Milk-Drunk, which turned into a now-viral IG post for Bobbie. When we initially shared the blog, we were inundated with stories from moms (and dads) about the hardships and inequalities of parenting.

But it didn’t stop at this one blog post. For every rant Nick posted about being called a “dad helper,” we’d get comments and DMs from other moms and dads with similar rants. It seemed like a waste to keep these stories buried in our inbox.

So, we created The Mom (and the Dad)— a Substack to share our own very personal and different perspectives about raising kids— from newborns to teenagers. A place where moms (and dads) could come together and share stories about every hilarious, light-hearted, and dark corner of parenting.

It’s a space to share your story, laugh at your own misery, and commiserate with others. No judgement. Just a refreshing and honest space for you to engage about parenting—with all that free time you have.

Thank you everyone for your support! And just a reminder: You’re doing great.

Who We Are

The Mom

Jenny Altman is a NY born brand and editorial director. Speaking mom, she has worked with the best parenting brands including Bobbie, Cerebelly, PlayhouseMD, Kabrita and more.

Formerly the Editorial Director at Scary Mommy, she writes mom-focused stories for Motherly, SheKnows, Well+Good, Peanut, and Milk-Drunk. Her passion is bringing together women to share their stories, as moms and as women (not exclusively), so that we can truly TALK about issues; whether it's periods, first bras, best baby products or mom-drama.

Mom to 13 year old Luisa, Jenny is here to share tween-mom experiences while learning from those who have already been through it!

(Technology x Tweens, HELP!?!)

(The Dad)

Nick Ciavarella is a dad of two beautiful and very loud girls. When he’s not pulling his hair out, he’s watching Bluey, thinking about what a vacation might be like, and earning a living as a Marketing and Creative strategist to support his home life.

He believes in a world where dads aren’t seen as secondary caretakers, but he fully understands why that’s currently the reality. He doesn’t play golf, and doesn’t fully comprehend how anyone with kids has time to do so.

Nick wants to lift up dads and moms, and remind them that yes, raising kids is really freakin hard, but it can also be amazing—especially if we can successfully shut down all the old crusty assholes who have an opinion but don’t know really what the hell they are talking about.
